ARRIVAL AND TRANSPORTATION

AFCI Week 2024 is taking place directly after the Location Managers Guild International Awards, which will be held on Saturday, August 24th, 2024. We encourage all film commissioners & industry colleagues to attend this amazing event, which not only recognizes excellence in location management and scouting but also highlights the role of outstanding film commissions. The evening includes networking, an award ceremony, and an after-party.

For AFCI members, we suggest arriving on Friday, August 23, so you may have Saturday morning and afternoon to relax and feel refreshed. On Friday evening from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, LMGI is holding an informal gathering for a couple of hours of “meet and greet” at The Hideaway – Beverly Hills at 421 N. Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, USA.

We recommend arranging flights to arrive at either the LAX International Airport or the Bob Hope International Airport in Burbank. Other attendees participating with day passes are suggested to arrive on Sunday, August 25.

Distance from LAX to Luskin: 11.2 miles or approximately 34 minutes.
Distance from Burbank to Luskin: 19.5 miles or approximately 52 minutes.

AFCI does not provide cabs or shuttles to or from the airport to the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center or your destination hotel. Cab/Uber/Lyft fare from LAX is typically around $60.00. If you are arriving during rush hour, Uber/Lyft fares can surge. Note that cabs do not apply the surge charges.

All activities, with the exception of the optional day, take place at UCLA Meyer & Renee Luskin Conference Center. It is not necessary to rent a car for AFCI Week. For those attending the optional day, transportation is being provided, and there is room for your luggage in that bus transportation if you need to leave for your flight during the tour.

PARKING

If you do need to park, self-parking is available underneath the Luskin Conference Center and in UCLA Parking Structure 8, Level 4, directly across the street from the center. There is a convenient pedestrian bridge connecting Parking Structure 8 (on Level 3) to the Luskin Conference Center property. There is a daily fee to park in either location. AFCI will not be accommodating fees incurred for parking.

The Center has a limited number of parking spaces to accommodate our overnight guests. When parking is filled to capacity or for events, adjacent parking structure 8 will be utilized. Parking permits are required at all times for all vehicles parked on campus. The University is not liable for theft, damage to, or loss of vehicles parked on campus. Vehicles not visibly displaying parking permits, parked illegally or parked in a location not designated on the permit, are subject to ticketing and towing. The Center will not be responsible for any violations or fines. Overnight parking at The Center is $35.00 per car, per night. Overnight parking at Parking Structure 8 is $30.00 per car, per night. These rates include a 10% parking occupancy tax that we are required to collect on behalf of the City of Los Angeles.

Parking Directions (from the Luskin)

To locate Parking Structure 8, enter the campus by heading north on Westwood Boulevard and make a left onto the Structure 8 driveway (located just before the parking information kiosk on Westwood Boulevard). Proceed up the ramp to Level 4 and park in any of the “Pay-by-Space” parking spots. You will need to purchase parking at a nearby parking kiosk.

To access the UCLA Luskin Conference Center via the pedestrian bridge from Parking Structure 8, take the north central stairs or elevator facing the conference center down one level (from Level 4 to Level 3) and cross over Strathmore Place. Make your way around the north side of the conference center. The front entrance is in front of the Gateway Plaza turnaround.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
There are complimentary charging stations at the Luskin, that are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Ensure your footwear is comfortable for the two to three-hour standing durations (the receptions will have some seating areas. For those on the Industry Tour, this will involve standing and sitting.) Saturday evening we are encouraging all members to participate in the Locations Managers Guild International Awards (LMGI) Show. This award show encourages dressy attire – although a black tie is not required. Lunch and the evening receptions will be held outside. Be prepared with sunscreen, sunglasses and light, layered clothing for changing weather conditions.

Badges will have a color coding for different classifications of registration.
If circumstances prevent your arrival on the first day of the event, note we will have registration operating from 7.30am on Monday and Tuesday through to 6pm.
Please be sure to wear your badge at all AFCI Week events (including lunches) upon obtaining it.

California Weather
The majority of events for AFCI Week 2024 will take place indoors. However, the two receptions will be held on the venue’s roof terrace. It’s suggested you bring a light jacket, layers or a sweater, as air conditioning can sometimes create a chill, and we are not able to adjust the hotel air conditioning.

Event App
We will be using our event app to send your notifications and for you to connect with other speakers and attendees. Please be sure to download this and create your profile in advance of the event. You will also be able to use this to ask questions during the event.

Business Cards
Please feel free to use them – otherwise, we have started using Blinq.com for digital business cards.

Other swag or collateral
There will not be an expo component to AFCI Week 2024. Therefore, there is no need to bring swag or other collateral.

Remember
Business cards, COVID vaccination card, passport/ID, your wallet, your phone and chargers. If you have further questions for AFCI, please contact us.
