MARCH 30 - APRIL 3, 2020 | EVENTS SCHEDULE
The first two days of AFCI Week 2020 will be focused on professional development. Members are invited to roll up their sleeves and engage with other members and select industry experts who will be brought in to present on specific topics.
There is a very bright spotlight on diversity in the screen industry at present, and rightly so. Respect for people regardless of age, ethnicity, socio-economic status, ability and sexual orientation is at the forefront of initiatives globally. AFCI’s partnership with TIME’S UP Entertainment on its screen sector report (release date late early 2020) is a reflection of this.
AFCI is proud to partner with leading Intimacy Coordinator, Amanda Blumenthal (EUPHORIA, PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS, SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER).
Amanda has been involved in gender and sexual advocacy work since college, serving in leadership positions in groups including Advocates for Survivors of Sexual Assault and Sex Positive Los Angeles, and was a sex and relationship coach prior to becoming an intimacy coordinator. She is the founder of Intimacy Professionals Association (IPA).
AFCI will also run a detailed session focusing on 18 key areas that productions expect Commissions to be well versed in – a knowledge of their territory’s infrastructure, incentives, crew depth, tax implications for foreigners, banking and finance issues, safety standards, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act concerns and more. This in-depth presentation has been co-created by AFCI and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Over the two days there will also be a series of member-to-member presentations so members can learn from one another and gain deeper insight into how other territories are responding to critical issues. Topics for discussion include the surge in content and the need for workforce development/training and infrastructure (studios and alternate studio space). These are issues facing every territory.
Tuesday March 31, 2020 – Professional Development Day 2 + Member General Assembly + Industry Reception
Tuesday will be the second of a two day professional development program. Please see the overview of Day 1 for a sense of the content which will be offered across the two days.
The AFCI Member General Assembly is an opportunity for the full membership body to meet new Board and AFCI members, connect with the staff and broader AFCI Week team and be informed about organizational initiatives for the year ahead.
Topics covered will include industry partnerships, membership expansion, up-and-coming research projects, Cineposium 2021, AFCI Awards and the new online Members-only Community. There will also be ample time for Q&A by the membership.
Tuesday evening there will be an Industry Reception with executives from both the film and television sector. All attendees will have name badges to make for ease of networking.
